All Punjab Educational Boards Change Mode of Matric Exams

The educational boards in Punjab have taken an important step to improve students’ English skills and bring educational standards in line with global norms.

According to the reports, all educational boards throughout the province will introduce English as the medium of instruction for matriculation exams in both science and art modules commencing in the year 2025.

Under this initiative, the gradual phasing out of Urdu from exam question papers will establish a consistent language medium across all subjects. Additionally, starting from 2026, all optional subjects for FA exams will also be conducted in English.

While formal approval for this policy is pending, educational authorities remain optimistic that it will receive approval during the forthcoming Punjab Boards Committee Chairmen (PBCC) meeting. However, Rana Liaqat Ali, the General Secretary of the Punjab Teachers Union, has voiced concerns regarding potential challenges associated with the language transition.

Ali emphasized the necessity of providing teachers with adequate training to facilitate a seamless transition and minimize potential student failure rates attributable to language barriers.
